Duolingo - Does it help you learn Irish?

Updated: Aug 14, 2022

Introduction

Duolingo is a great language-learning tool that has helped me improve my Spanish and learn how Irish is thought throguh an app. With Duolingo, you can learn basic vocabulary and grammar in your target language by translating phrases from English to your target language. This app is great for beginners who want to improve their conversational skills or brush up on some grammar fundamentals without having to take classes.

Duolingo offers different levels of difficulty depending on the user's proficiency level with each language. For example, starting out with basic phrases like "How are you?" or "I'm fine" gets progressively harder as new words are introduced such as verbs conjugations and prepositions (like "on").

You are capable of customizing your learning experience by setting goals for yourself such as learning certain words or phrases within a specific timeframe (e.g., 2 weeks). There are even fun games where you can play against friends/family members if they're also using Duolingo!

What is it?

Duolingo is a free language learning app that uses a simple and playful user interface. It's available on mobile and desktop, and it has been downloaded more than 120 million times.

The app features very simple user interface and it's easy to use. There are also plenty of lessons and exercises available for free, with some being gated (meaning you have to pay for them).

What can it be used for?

It can be used for so many things.

  • Learning a language: This is the obvious use case, and it's probably why you came here in the first place. Duolingo offers courses in Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese (Brazilian), with new languages being added all the time. The website is also compatible with mobile apps for iOS and Android phones that let you take lessons on your phone or tablet anywhere you'd like. The app has some great features like speed control to help users learn at their own pace.

  • Learning in a fun way: If learning isn't fun enough already, Duolingo makes sure it's as enjoyable as possible by keeping lessons varied and interesting with graphics that illustrate content well while also making them engaging enough not to put off learners who might otherwise find more traditional methods boring or repetitive—or worse yet, ineffective! We've even heard reports of people quitting their jobs because they were sick of going into work every day when all they really wanted was a way out into something more fulfilling than their current job offered them...

Ease of use.

Duolingo is very easy to use. It's simple, with a few screens and buttons to navigate through the app. You can also easily sign up for Duolingo by going through their website or downloading the app. Once you're signed up, you can start learning in no time!

Duolingo has made learning new words fun and easy because they have added a game element into the app where it becomes kind of like a game where you get points for correctly completing different activities on the app (such as translating sentences). This makes it enjoyable while also rewarding you for doing well at what you are trying to learn!

You can practice what you have learned offline by using flashcards or flashcard apps that support importing from Google Drive

Does it live up to its promise?

Duolingo is one of the most popular language-learning apps on the market today, boasting over 300 million users. It's a great way to start learning a new language, but does it work?

Yes and no. The app offers itself as a great outlet to begin learning the most basic words and phrases but when one gets into the 'nitty gritty', it doesn't perform as one would hope.

The natural way of speaking Irish is self-evidently the most common way of talking with others. Duolingo restricts learners into a box whereby the learner is forced to learn strict phrases and grammatically correct sentences. Certinaly it is a great outlet to learn vocab but not how one would natuerally speak in an everyday setting.

Conclusion

With that said, Duolingo is one of the best apps available for learning a new language. It’s easy to use and has a lot of great features that will help you learn Irish by setting goals and tracking your progress through the app. Don't forget that the free version comes with 5 lives but on desktop it is available with unlimited lives!
